"The item that is being refered to is the digging arm of the Ransomes And Rapier 5360 Stripping Shovel. It is refered to as 'The Pole'. The pole slots into a hole in the middle the jib of the 5360. You are looking at the rack side…"

"I have examined my original high-res scan but am not much wiser. I don't know what it is but it appears to have been there for a long time, judging by the stains on the three concrete supports.  It might possibly be part of some form of…"

Woodford Halse Shed and Locos

This album contains photos of Woodford Halse loco shed plus a couple taken near the west curve to the SMJ, all from the Sixties. Whilst strictly speaking Woodford Halse was not part of the SMJ, it certainly provided many of the locos and crews that…

"Thanks Dick. I get my loco allocation information from www.brdatabase.info which shows nothing for this loco before 21/12/63 which was the date it was allocated to Nottingham. Curiously, it was later re-allocated to Woodford Halse for 1 week in…"

"It had probably come down ( well 'up' actually!) on one of the 'Dringhouses' fitted freights that would have continued via the SMJ with WR power possibly a double chimney 9F. V2s, and less frequently by 1963 B16s, were the usual…"

"I saw this engine on the SMJ line EAST of Woodford a couple of times around 1960, on one occasion it was pulling a Crosti and B16 and heading towards Northampton. This looks like the line of withdrawn 'Dubdees' that lined the…"

Addition to SMJ Steam in the Sixties Album

After uploading the photos in this album, I discovered a neatly drawn table in my rather scrappy notebook for 1964/65 which showed the steam freight workings over the SMJ. "Hi Dave, Thanks for the info on CAD Kineton/Burton Dassett. When my mates and I visited the area in the early sixties, the depot did not appear on the OS map nor was it signposted from any of the roads that we travelled. As a result we never knew…"
